At first, I was hesitant about this project. I am not a fan of recording my voice. However, once I started this, I realized how beneficial this could be in the next few weeks! The topic I chose is the product rule of exponents. This is what my class will be starting with when school resumes the 6th. I am planning on using the video I created as a test to see how the students respond. If I can create simple screen casts to discuss a topic, then I am able to reach out more to my students compared to giving them worksheets to work on without assistance. Also, if a student is struggling, I can screen cast me working and talking through the problem and assist multiple students. This makes it more personable compared to sending the students to a YouTube video which addresses a similar problem. I can be exact and help the students with specific questions.
I have discovered that PowerPoint has a software in which typing math equations is simple and I can animate the slides to have the text appear when I want. This makes the screen cast more effective because the students are not bombarded with all of the information at once.
Danielle,
I think your video was great. It was clear and easy to follow. I agree that giving your students a screen cast that you have made is more personable than sending them to a generic YouTube site. Your students will like it!

Danielle,
it is very thoughtful of you to take the time to do the video for your students instead of directing them to an existing video on YouTube. I as a student have benefited from this videos when I needed them, and now, when my daughter has an issue I tell her to find a video on YouTube. Sadly, most of her teachers in her school are just creating a folder sending the worksheets they want back for the week, with a lesson worksheet… this shows how unprepared some teachers can be for times like this. I enjoyed your video.

Hi Danielle
I also used screencasting. Screencasting is a great way to show students how to work a website or even a problem such as the one you modeled. I enjoyed make my screencasting video of my parents and students. The video you made would really help explain the rule of exponents to students. Great job on the video.
